NO MORE PETS!

I don't think we're ready for pets in our house. I have always been a pretty big animal lover and swore when I got older I would have lots of pets around. Maybe that's where Dylan's love for animals came from. I was a bit like that as a kid. But something happened between my childhood and the grownup version of me that has changed my perspective on everything. It's something to do with adding extra responsibility to a pretty big load of responsibility I already feel comes with home ownership, motherhood and other grownup duties. I've decided that we are not ready for a bunch of pets around our house. This past month we have watched the five fish in the tank die off one by one. I'm sure the levels of something are out of whack, but I can't figure out what is killing them all. If we lose the last one, we'll probably get a couple cheap goldfish and try it again and then just put the acquarium away for awhile. It's just too much to constantly have to talk to Dylan about his fish dying.

And then there's the hamster. Okay, so we've decided we're probably not keeping it. Dylan is just too crazy about animals to leave the thing alone. I feel bad, but it did kind of get thrown at us...we never got to make the decision to have a hamster. Marcos and I both feel it's probably better to find another home for him. We'll see how that goes.

At least until Dylan's a little older and can help take care of the animals without loving them to death, we're going to hold off on purchasing any more pets (or taking in pets from other people). I think we're going to be pet sitters. Dylan loves when we tend Alicia's dog, Belle, so maybe that can be our role until we reach that next commitment level. Yes, the Uboldi pet sitters. We'll visit your animals or let them stay over for a night or two and then they can go back home.

Funny! I agree. I always wanted dogs but we will wait until Franky dies and the kids can take care of the poopy mess in the back yard and feed him and take him for walks.... There is a long time for that so... I am in no rush... and I am tired of being a dog sitter EVERY DAY!

Oh yeah, we had to give our dog Bella away two weeks ago. It was way too much! All the poop, pee, jumping up on everything, chewing on everything!!! Way too much until the kids are a lot older!!! The one thing we are good at is the fish. I can handle that. They entertain themselves! About the hampster.. you should do what we did w/ Christian's roomates guinea pig that they "convienantly" left behind. We couldn't find anyone to take him, so we snuck him into Petsmart and let him loose! We called it Operation Gumbo Drop!! It is a fond memory!!!

Sid, that is hillarious! I think we have a taker on the hamster, but if it falls through, we have a PetSmart close by so we'll think about having a covert operation of our own.
