Preston's Tender Touch

Preston's had a pretty eventful week. He's been having a difficult time sleeping and I've been trying to figure that out. Was he sick? Missing me? Am I spoiling him too much and I'm going to pay with his lack of sleep later? Well, he's been waking up once a night and just needing a little snuggle from me before he'll go back to sleep. One night, his whole schedule was off. He didn't eat well before bed so I decided he must be hungry when he woke up and that was the solution. I made him a bottle and fed it to him and then snuggled with him a while in my bed. Marcos woke up and thought we were cute enough that he grabbed the camera. The flash trying to focus in on us in the middle of the night in my dark bedroom was almost too much to bare as you can see from our groggy pictures, but I had to share them. Preston is just such a sweet little thing. He'll gaze into my eyes and gently reach his hand out to touch my mouth or cheek. He really seems to connect with people that way. It's so tender and sweet! Every time he does it, I just want to squeeze him. And he's always been this way. When I fed him as a brand new baby, he would hold my hand or reach up to put his whole hand against my cheek with his tiny little fingers. It's almost as if his palm and his fingers were one unit, like an animal's paw, the way he would reach with his whole hand so still. It's hard to explain, but it's one of his staples and it's the best!

Tuesday was a huge day. Tia Laura tended the kids. I picked Preston up early to go to his monthly doctor appointment. Poor Preston is such a trooper. I can't tell you how difficult it is to have to hold him down while he gets a painful shot and then watch him calm right back down and trust me the minute I pick him up and comfort him. But the days he gets his shots are always difficult. He's more fussy and clingy and he's usually off from missing his afternoon nap. But despite all our Tuesday trama, Preston became an official crawler at the tender age of 11 1/2 months. He's been on the verge of crawling for several weeks and has taken up to about 8 little crawling steps before he reverted back to his infamous army crawl. But Tuesday he continued crawling from side to side to side. So we're calling that his official crawl date. Once in a while I see his army crawl and I have to admit, I already miss it. It was such a Preston thing. To see this big, bald, 11 month old baby scooting around the floor was definitely a sight to see. He's his own unique, adorable self, that's for sure.

I have some cute video of him crawling, but I can't seem to find the cord to my video camera. I've searched everywhere so I might need to go buy another one. I'll post a video of him crawling as soon as I get it all figured out. Hopefully it doesn't take me so long that it's way old news by then.

And to add to our crazy week, yesterday Preston threw up. He was up last night a couple of times and just extra fussy. Today I've pretty much held him whenever he's been awake. So for better AND for worse it's been a pretty eventful week for my precious little Preston.
