Another Conversation With Dylan

I swear this kid cracks me up sometimes.  Tonight we were driving home from Leah's birthday party (my niece) and Dylan was just talking my ear off.  He has an answer for everything. Yesterday we saw some puppies on the side of the road and let Dylan hold them.  Big mistake! Now everything is about getting a puppy.  So here's what I can remember from our drive home tonight.

D: Mom, did you get that lady's phone number with the puppies?
M: Yes, but I don't think we're going to get a puppy right now.   We need to wait until you're older and can help take care of an animal.
D: Yeah, when I'm 5 I can feed it and take it for walks.
M: Puppies are a big responsibility.  You  have to feed them, give them water, let them outside to go to the bathroom, pick up their poop, take them on walks...
D: And give them baths, right mom?
M: Yep, that's right.  And some dogs need haircuts and need to be brushed and get their toenails cut.
D:  I think Christmas is a wonderful season.
M: Me too.
D: Yeah, I think Santa would want to bring me a puppy.
M (thinking): Uh-oh...
D: But puppies are probably hard to wrap.  I wonder how Santa would wrap a puppy.  You can't wrap a puppy.
M: I think Santa makes sure a family is ready for an animal before he brings it for Christmas. Our family might not be ready for an animal yet, but some day we will be.
D: Yeah, maybe I can just babysit Belle (that's my sister's dog).
M: That's a great idea.  We can ask Alicia if we can take care of her the next time they go out of town.
D: I will take care of her and give her food and take her on walks, but not hold her.  She doesn't like to be held.
M: Sometimes she gets nervous, doesn't she?  But she likes to sit on your lap when you sit still with a blanket on your legs.
D: Yeah, I think I want a dalmatian.  Belle's a dalmatian
M: No, Belle's a chihuahua.
D:  Aye chihuahua?
M: No, Belle is a type of dog that is called a chihuahua.
D:  But she is black and white.
M: I know, some chihuahuas are white with black spots and that reminds us of a dalmatian, doesn't it?
D: Like the firefighters have.
M: Yep, like the firefighters have.

I have no idea where the conversation went from there, but it was all just so funny.  Everything he said made me want to laugh.  What a fun age these preschoolers can be when they're not driving their parents crazy!

Creo que los papás o Santa Claus tendrían que traerle una mascota a Dylan, eso sí, no sé si dálmata o chihuahua.
Me encantó la conversación que tuvieron.

I'm cracking up reading it! I have always said that that age is my favorite age for what kids say, and I think it's holding true with Dill pickle. What a funny guy! I loved the part about wrapping a puppy. It's like that song, "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas." There's a part in there taking about getting it down the chimney that says, "He (Santa) won't have to use our dirty chimney flue, just bring it through the front door that's the easy thing to do!"
